(September 2008. Used at Stake Priesthood Meeting, after being called as Stake Young Men’s President)
I would like to share with you my testimony, the testimony of the young man, as your peer. This is my testimony from April 4, 1982, when I was seventeen years old. I had attended a session of General Conference that day, and was able to hear the last talk at General Conference by President Kimball, then the president of the church.
I truly this day have received a testimony of …a prophet of the Lord. I now can say that I know, I know, that we have a president and a prophet at the head of our church. I now am held accountable for every word that proceedeth forth from the mouth of God, through his prophet.
May I always remember these feelings, may my children have the chance some day, to feel, and see, and hear the things that I have today, is my sincere prayer.
This is not all of my testimony; this is just a small segment. As I laid in bed this afternoon, I named the things that I believe.
I realized that I have never felt a burning, a tingling or such thing about the divinity of the Lord’s life, or about [the] Son coming to earth and now living again, nor about our being the spirit offspring and children of God the Father…, but I have always known it to be true. I used to pray to know that God loved me, and listened to my prayers, but every time I received the answer, “Don’t doubt it.” I’ve always known it, from the time I was born.
I’ve believed very strongly that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. This is because I know the Book of Mormong to be true, and I know the D&C to be ture, and that the Aaronic Preisthood, which I hold, was restored to him and Oliver Cowdry. I know that no one can be happy while living in sin. It is literally impossible. All the laws of God must be obeyed: the law of chasity, the law of honesty, the law of the word of wisdom, the law of tithing, etc. I know know the law of tithing to be true because of [experiences] this year.
…I know that God answers prayers. I know he loves me…
I will receive a testimony of a lot more things than what I have related here. I know that.
I seal these things, at this time, in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.
