I Sons of Moses
34 They become the sons of Moses and of Aaron and the seed of Abraham, and the church and kingdom, and the elect of God.
Verse 34 of Section 84 mentions the Sons of Moses. This same phrase is used in this section uses the same phase 5 times. The only other occurrence of this phase is in 1 Chronicles speaking about his literal sons. Examination of these references in section 84 will show that the phase “the sons of Moses” refers to those that receive the Melchizedek Priesthood.
The first use of the phase is in verse 6:
6 And the sons of Moses, according to the Holy Priesthood which he [Moses] received under the hand of his father–in–law, Jethro;
The section then continues to explain the lineage of the Melchizedek Priesthood. Note that Holy Priesthood is the Melchizedek priesthood, as noted in the following verse:
25 Therefore, he took Moses out of their midst, and the Holy Priesthood also;
The fact that the Sons of Moses means future holders of the Melchizedek Priesthood makes sense because Moses was the last holder of the Melchizedek Priesthood, as Aaron was the first holder of the Aaronic priesthood.
